Welcome!
Thank you for coming to our website. Kracker Ranch is home to Lacey Oak and Scarlet Hills dairy goats. We have a small family farm in Northern California where we raise our Alpine, La Mancha, Toggenburg (currently a herd of 1), and Experimental Dairy Goats. A project that originally began because I was afraid of cows has grown to become a huge part of our life; for which we are grateful for everyday. We strive to produce the all around animals that excel in not only the functional circle but the show ring as well. We participate in the ADGAplus program that includes participation in milk testing, DNA typing, and linear appraisal. This program pushes us to produce animals that fit the goals of our breeding program and gives us data on our herd as we go. Our herd is CAE and CL negative and we test annually to ensure that our animals are as healthy as they are happy.
Well 2020 hit all of us hard, including the goat show world. All the shows in California were cancelled and we decided to take it easy. We didn't milk as long as we normally do as we had other life complications occur besides the pandemic so to preserve what little sanity we do have we freshened all our does and raised a bunch of healthy kids and then dried most of the does up relatively quickly. We are looking forward to hitting a couple shows in 2021 but honestly not being gone every weekend over the summer was kind of nice. We might have more of a balance moving forward.
We will be posting our breeding lists on the For Sale page soon as we are working on our plans for the fall, there maybe a couple more 2021 kids that become available as we sort the "keeper" pen...there's a few too many in there but I also might convince myself to keep them all. Time will tell. Feel free to contact us with any questions or to schedule a visit to meet the goats, we would love to hear from you!
